Do you hear the difference? A test

I got it right, slightly clearer voice and the percussion at the end had slightly more slam. Was really obvious. i wonder if it really depends on the quality of the equipment to be able to pick it up.

what did you guys look for? i felt like it captured the tone and the harmonics of the voice fairly well.

anyways, ABX tests of a bunch of songs are better

Two things, really: the orchestra & voice sounding "condensed" and/or "stale", the clarity of the strings at the conclusion

Got it right the first time. The higher rate has more "air".

Bah, I can hear absolutely NO difference between the two clips, using my nice Emu0404->Stax 3050 setup...

...now I feel sad

Got it wrong, but bad example. If I were to take a lossless track and transcode it into a 128kbps MP3 and a 320kbps MP3 and ABX the two, I'd tell the difference easily. In fact just to test that I wasn't crazy I did just that right after I took that test.

Needed my Samson studio monitors to find the difference but even then it was very subtle, listen to the symbols, it's the most obvious difference I found.

I hope you fellow head-fi'ers forgive me for using my studio monitors

I got it right using my laptop's speakers. The difference to me was the lesser sample has less high frequencies and it sounded flatter.
