I clean my buds on my Etymotic HF5s a lot, I also always keep them in the supplied carrying case so nothing happens to the cable.
Do you "clean" your IEMs?

Mine barely get dirty and if they get just get in with that cleaning tool.
For eartips i just hold them into realy hot water
