@Donald North - thoughts?Does anyone know if it’s safe to use a 12AU7 tube like the G73R with an adapter in the Stellaris? Or a even a 6SN7 with an adapter?

Haven’t tried the 12AU7 with adapter.
You can directly use the 6CG7 - it’s a 9-pin version of the 6SN7. The sound is kinda dead though IMO.

You can now go crazy with 2x 6J5 with adapters haha. Looks ugly with Stellaris though
Or even CV6s if I feel particularly heinous lolYou can now go crazy with 2x 6J5 with adapters haha. Looks ugly with Stellaris though

Addendum: per site rules - muddy and dull. I suppose if you have some really bright tubes and headphones/chain it might help bring it down but it's a no for me.
Now this Amperex 7308 is delightful.
but returning to my 'Ruby Tiger' 6n1p has the same result of the 7308.
I have various adapters arriving soon and will report back when they arrive.

you can tie pins 3 and 4 to one end of the heater and pin 9 to the other end to make an adapterDoes anyone know if it’s safe to use a 12AU7 tube like the G73R with an adapter in the Stellaris? Or a even a 6SN7 with an adapter?
that will allow you to use 12.6v triodes (like 12au7 and e80cc) in the first stage that uses 6.3v...
but it's susceptible to hum and noise, which defeats the purpose of having a great sounding
output transformer.

No, you’d need to tie pins 4 &5 togetheryou can tie pins 3 and 4 to one end of the heater and pin 9 to the other end to make an adapter

Safest is to use a 12AU7 -> 6N1P/6922 adapter

Tested with a Deyan adapter. Slight loss in gain. Maybe even a slight loss in dynamics compared to the stock driver. Sounds a little dull. Wouldn’t recommend over stock. Will test some 6SN7s with an adapter.
Cool to see the experiments with input tubes on the Stellaris. I've been running through a box of input tubes that a friend sent and my favorite so far has been this Magnadyne 6bz7. Before I was using a Sylvania 6bq7a and the Magnadyne might be a bit leaner overall but the size of stage really expands with the magnadyne and the imaging and detail is a step up as well. My other tubes are the Taktsuki 2A3 and a National Union VT244.

Tested some 6SN7s including a Sylvania 3-Hole Bad Boy and a Brimar Cv1988 black glass. Sounded better than the G73R - more alive, not too dissimilar from the stock driver. Sylvania had some nice dynamics while the Brimar sounded more full and thick in the mids.
However, there was a fair bit of hum that was definitely audible during quiet passages. Could be the adapter since I wasn’t using a Deyan for this one.
Overall I am not sure if there’s much gain to be realized by rolling the driver. Seems like rolling the rectifier makes the biggest difference, followed by power tubes.

Wondering what everyone’s favorite 2A3s are? So far I have tried Linlai WE2a3, EML 300b 2.5v mesh, and Acme 2a3. The Linlai were my favorite. Is there anything else with a similar kind of sound?

If you expand on what you liked or experienced with any of the listed, we might be able to provide further assistance. I've only used the Acme. They are fine but I don't enjoy them at the same levels as I do the Kr, Taks, or mono RCAs.Wondering what everyone’s favorite 2A3s are?
