I need an amp and DAC. My budget is about $300 and building it should not be an issue. I have seen some kits by amb, L'espressivo, and Bijou.

Twisted Pear has some kits for DAC also.

What are some recommendations/what have other people built and enjoyed.

I doubt there are kits for L'espressivo

DAC : at $300, fly right by the TwistedPearAudio stuff, Gamma1 is one of the only good choices. There are some kits off eBay, some look nice.

Amp : Well, there are too many to list, good luck.

Any suggestions for a solid state amp kit rather than a tube because it seems like most kits are all tube.

I'm not a fan of kits and there is a reason tube amps are in kits - it's not easy finding transformers, tubes, caps and all other parts from less than 3 different suppliers.

ya it seems that there is a lot that can go wrong with buying all the parts up and assembling. I have mulled over the headwize forum and it seems very time consuming and worrisome building amps and DACs. Plus I am going to be a full time student and I think I will go for a combo Amp/DAC for now and then after I am more familiarized with all of the stuff that goes into building up a rig.
