hi guys and girls,

 

so i have a problem, i have been looking everywhere and when browsing through the forums a while ago, someone linked a diy female 3.5mm headphone hack, where they got rid of the cord and went for a female attachment straight on the headphone itself, much for example, the removable cable on the beats by dre headphones.

 

i bought a pair of M50s off scitscat and i was hoping to get rid of the long coiled cord and change it to the removable type.

 

i have already ordered one of these;

so that i can talk to people on the phone when i am wearing the m50s. 

 

i hope this is the right section of the forum to post it in and if anyone could link me to the mod that would be great.

 

also, do you think that it could stuff the acoustics of the can if i go for the internal female mod, an alternative is that i just cut the cable about 2 inches from the can itself, and solder together a female 3.5mm jack much like the one below;

I have doubt about the space in the cans would be enough to stuff a female jack. But if it has it is easy if the socket has a screw end as usually. Look at this photo:

So You can screw in the inner part.
 
I do not have the M50 so can not say it fits or not.
But if it don't fit, You can choose some different plugs too.
 
For example a power plug like in laptops or portable amps:

It is quite shorter.
 
Lastly You could ask this guy, who installed a mini XLR socket in his here in the diy cable gallery thread:

thanks, yes i beleive that the mod that i saw had a female 3.5mm headphone jack, but it was very compact and had a screw on nut on the front to make things very nice...
 
much like the second photo you have listed... but 3.5mm female

I have no doubt that a 3.5mm would fit, I had a mini XLR in mine with no problems at all. There is a ton of room in the M50

Yeah saw your mod on that other thread, looks really good! What tools did you use, roughly how much did this cost you and could you please take a photo of what it looks like inside, cheers. What model connectors/cables did you use? How did you remove the rubber tubing that comes out of the left ear cup? Cheers

Just need a drill and an iron, connectors are generic and I reused the factory M50 cable.

My M50 mod and DIY Neutrik terminated cables:

 
I used the Lumberg 3.5mm female chassis for the left ear cup hole, which I made bigger by using a file.

Works really well, the Lumberg chassis has a good lock onto the 3.5mm plug and doesn't come out unless a considerable amount of force is used.
I filled in the gaps with clear silicone, after about 12 hours it set, and holds the chassis strongly in place with some flex when inserting/removing cables.

My Creative Aurvana Live headphones were modified similarly as supergolf's K518DJ. The slight difference is that my CAL can also accept audio from an integrated Sansa Clip attached to the headband, while inserting an removable cable with audio will automatically cut off signal from the Sansa Clip.
 

 
With a short removable cable, you can also let headphones to accept audio from a Sansa Clip clipped onto headphones to go quasi-wireless.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but it somehow keeps popping up in just about every single time I search google for info on female jacks...

WHY?!? WHY GOD WHY?!?!?!
 
 
This is just wrong... Why did you poke such a huge hole in your M50s and use huge globs of silicone to stick the jack in place?
Why not just drill a Ø6.2mm hole and use the connectors' own threaded ring to mount it? Or even if the threaded part was too short, why not drill a correct sized hole and only use the silicone on the inside? I mean, the connector itself must fit inside. I've used these on multiple occasions and they are tiny... And even a Mini XLR fits in the M50 so...
