Hi, I'm a newbie (check out my number of posts!) and have a gentleman that is building a Gilmore Lite for me. I asked him about cables and he said he just makes his own out of a quality mic cord that is Teflon-wrapped.

Seeing that the prices can be so high for top-name cables, is the DIY mic-cord a relatively good option for us starving students?

Thanks!

Go for it. That's what I did when I got my first DIY amp from JMT.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with DIY cables, in fact they are generally better than off-the-shelf cables 2X the price because the lack of overhead, etc. , not to mention even higher end cable manufacturers are using parts that are available to any DIYer. Now if you really wanted to save some money you could make them yourself.

Thanks for the replies. That's good news for my wallet.
Can anyone post a weblink to a good mic cable or other DIY cable so I can get an idea of what to look for?
Should I just buy Rat-Shack gold-plated rca plugs to terminate the cable?
Thnx,
