DITA Audio Project M Discussion Thread

Treble works for me. It’s an unusual tuning that adds sharper “outline” to notes by emphasizing transients. I don’t get sibilance at all, but others do (at 49, my hearing still goes to 16-17kHz).

But the low end is exceptional. It is the reason to own this set IMO. Best low end of any set I own. Elastic without being rubbery. Punchy without being boomy. The relaxed upper mids get out of the way of the low end, and the boosted treble adds (slightly artificial) emphasis to low end attack and decay. For me, the entire tuning is structured to emphasize the low end. Not because it’s a bassy set, but just an exceptionally clear and “alive” low end. Not sure how else to describe it.
The way you described the lowend, I am looking forward to hearing PM.
Thank you!

IMO, Project M and Mega5EST are very different. The 5EST is a bassy, warm and lush sounding IEM, whereas the PM is much leaner in the midrange and bass, while being more "clean" and "detailed". I like having both, as I think they offer something very different from each other, and both are highly enjoyable to me.
I know they are very different but I got money for only so its one or the other. Let's see which one I end up enjoying more.

I have a borrowed Mega5est with me and will be getting the PM loaned to me. I liked Mega5est. Now will hear PM. I plan on keeping one and returning the other. Wanted to get people's impression on the treble part of the iem.
And can you share some more details on the lowend?

For me, vs. Mega5 EST, PM has
  • Slightly less subbass
  • Much less mid bass
  • Less prominent mids
  • Much more treble extension.
If you want more treble extension with Mega5 EST, do not use wide bore tips. I found coreir tips improved mega5est treble at expense of low end slam. The standard narrow tips that come with the mega5 est are a nice balance of increased treble and bass slam. Tip rolling matters for this iem.

For PM I prefer using the final e tips that came with the iem.

The big difference between these two items for me comes in the form of coherence. PM has a large spacious presentation. The image makes sense to my ears with the simple 1 DD and 1 BA set up.

The Mega5 est sounds crowded to me - a bigger bass shelf over a wider frequency range with more pronounced mids but very little treble extension spread across three different drivers.

I’m very curious about the crossover used for both of these iems.

Regardless, I’ve been reading the articles listener has been writing on hrtf, the 5128 vs 711, comparing headphones with IEMs, etc. the big takeaway in my eyes is that two people can and will hear an iem differently.

The best thing to do is try both for a long time after making sure you have the ideal tips selected.

For me, Project M wins every time vs Mega5 EST. I’m likely more extreme than others in that I’m considering selling my Mega5 EST because of my strong preference for Project M.

Listener’s pieces have been excellent. Have you watched Blaine’s talk from Can Jam yet (on HpTF)? Even further adventures in “no two people will hear the same thing.”

And I’ll echo what you say about the Project M. For those of us it works for, there’s not much else that compares.

I haven’t but I will! Thx!

Do you have a link? I’m having a hard time finding it! Thx

Just wondering if anyone knew if a QDC cable will be compatible with the PM? For the past few weeks I've been enjoying and keep getting surprised at the incredible audio clarity and quality from a simple DD+BA set. So much so that I also want to be able to use them for gaming once in a while. I want to switch to a cable with a mic whenever I get in the mood of using them for games. But with all the promo and great literature of the high end cable it comes with, I'm afraid a basic QDC cable might change/affect the PM?

You need a cable with a TFZ connection. QDC will be very loose. A decent quality cable should not affect sound to much. (Or at all).

Thank you! That's the information I needed for the connection that I could not find previously.
And the cable I know does not make much difference. But there's so much hype on the Dita website about the custom cable, I thought it might be important lol

Well…. Honestly I personally haven’t been able to hear any differences between cables😅. I have seen several posts about oxidation on that cable, so to be sure I bought this one:

I just found this on AliExpress: NOK545.97 | KBEAR Chord 6N Graphene+4N OFC Silver-plated Mixedly Braided Upgrade Cable With MMCX/2Pin Connector Earphone Wire Accessory KS1
https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ez434Mo

just to save on the stock cable. Works great for me!

Thanks! Yes I also want to save the original cable just in case.
