I feel that my home rig has come to a point where I am not feeling the urge to upgrade for a while. So I decided to make some calculations how much money I have spent on different parts of my setup and the results were quite interesting.

So I challenge you to do some math and post here how the situation is in your setups and of course any additional comments are very welcome. I used retail prices in Finland if available with my calculations and here is how it ended up. Feel free to use any methods you feel most suitable for you.

Source: 21 %
Amplifying: 19 %
Headphones: 13 %
Cables: 27 %
Power: 19 %
Tweaks: 1 %

I think my setup is not the most traditional when looking at the financial distribution into different components. However I feel that this is my way of experiencing the music and I am very happy with my setup as it is. Of course if I could get my hands on L3000 some day it would look a lot different

Hmm,

Source/Amp/Cans is about 20/40/40. And I totally know it's time to work on the source to bring up the quality of at least the transport part of the source (I like the DAC!)

heres mine... These are prices paid some new and some used.

13% = CD transport - $190 (Panasonic DVD)
8% = DAC - $115 (entech 205.2)
16% = Amp - $230 (earmax-used)
49% = Cans - $700 (

)
10% = Power conditioning - $145 (furman PL+)
2% = Cables $25 - (Generic toslink and RCA cables)

I think a DAC and amp upgrade should be my next move.

Cans: $550
Amp: $1050-1100 into it and another few hundred coming after I work out a scam situation on another forum
Source: both M-Audio and Sony Free
Power: $150
Cables: $80 (DIY)

That's what I paid. If we go retail pricing, which is a better method to compare (everyone gets different deals used)

Cans: $695
Amp: $2000 + $175 in mods
Source: $500 Sony (one of first DVD players) and $249.99 for M-Audio
Power: $400
Cables: $80

Of course we know how inflated msrp is....

Once I bring the source up to spec I'll have a fairly balanced system

Hmmm, going by new retail:

Source: 80%
Headphones: 11%
Amp: 7%
Cables, misc: 2%

For what I actually paid:

Source: 38%
Headphones 38%
Amps: 16%
Cables, misc: 8%

(the numbers were rounded off)

Corda headfive(amp): $263, 42%
dt770/80(can): $225, 36%
x-fi xm(source): $120, 19%
Cheap (IC): $14, 2-3%

I'm happy with the sound I have, but $622? That number hollows out my chest:/

Hmmm... haven't really thought about this since I joined. Let's see how it looks now...

Portable:

Source - 30%
Amp - 30%
Cables - 10%
Cans 30%

Home:

Source - 35%
Amp - 25%
Cables - 10%
Cans 30%

I'm actually surprised how close my two rigs are in proportion. I guess if I factored in the speakers for my home rig, things get a little out of whack though. What disturbs me is just how expensive a decent portable rig can cost... especially considering what I paid for my home rig. Size really does come at a premium.

1- Sources (digital&analogue)
2- Amplification
3- Headphones
4- Cables

This only accounts for headphones. Not my speaker rig and stuff.

My K1000 and mystery rig are both under construction. Thats why these numbers are a little off (2 amps will balance it out)
k1000smile.gif

Source: 35%
Amp: 0%
Cables: .02% (DIY!

)
Headphones: 64%

edit: edited the numbers since this is only including the parts in my K1000 and mystery headphone rigs (both of which are very incomplete)

Does not include portable and phones that are for speciality use

K1000 rig

source - transport + Dac: ~30%
amp: ~30%
phones: ~30%
interconnects: ~10%

HD650 rig

source - transport + Dac: ~50%
amp: ~25%
phones: ~20%
interconnects: ~5%

good spread

Rough estimates from memory...

Headphones: 50% (AT W5000, AT AD2000, Beyer DT801)
Amps: 17% (M3, Darkvoice THA336)
Amp mods: 8% (Conversion to THA336FM)
Source: 17% (Squeezebox 3, Zhaolu D2C)
Cables: 8% (Connectors, sleeving, 3/4 mile of wire)
