I'm considering both of these phones, and am wondering if anyone who picked/preferred the K601 over the K701 would elaborate on why they did. I've read too many old threads, and some current opinions would be nice.

If I woulda picked the K601's, I would have only because they were $100 on Black Friday. I didn't tho

I had both. Preferred the 601s... a tad warmer - not as sterile. Soundstage not as big but very pleasant overall. I never did quite warm up to the 701s. I tried tubes but still didn't care for the overall sound signature of the 701s. The 601s are easy to like.

I've really been enjoying your 601s, thanks again

Yeah, I'm trying to decide between the two. I like the fact that the 601 is more comfortable, but most of what I've read suggests the 701 provides a larger soundstage and more detail. I also find the 601 much more attractive in its low-key look than the 701, which looks like a toy if I focus on the plastic earcups.

I don't want to keep more than one main phone (because I'll inevitably spend 99% of my time listening to one once I pick a favorite). If I buy the 701 or 601, I'm going to have to either return or sell it or what I currently have (the AD700). The hassle of doing this is what's keeping me from ordering either at the moment.

The 601's are a lot like the ad700's. Soundstage just as large, mids very good, bass about the same, but considerably better detail. The earpads are more comfortable, too.

That's very tempting. I've put up a WTB. They're overpriced on Amazon ($230). I wish I'd caught the $90 Headroom sale last November, but alas...
