How can I determine if a receiver has an integrated amp or just a pre-amp? Sorry if this is a silly question but I can't seem to find the information..thanks

Yep, HC is right. Look for binding posts or terminal clips on the back. A preamp will only have RCA jacks for the power amp, and those jacks will probably have a label saying they go to the power amp.
