Hi all,
 
I recently convinced a friend of mine to buy the Sennheiser HD6XX from massdrop. Right now he's looking for a DAC/amp combo, but he doesn't want to spend too much. His budget is around €100.
 
I recommended an Audioquest Dragonfly Black, since I have one and I'm very happy with it. But part of the reason I bought it, is because my desk is quite full and I don't have room for a desktop DAC/amp. He does have space for a desktop DAC/amp combo.
 
I'd like to hear some recommendations on a desktop DAC/amp of around €100. Also, availability of lesser known DAC's is quite poor here in the Netherlands.

Besides playing music from my PC, I frequently use my Oppo BD 203 and would like to hook it up to a desktop DAC Amp, preferably via optical cable. Will be using a Sennheisser HD 660S, but since I´d be trying to avoid switching cables, any suggestions for a DAC Amp with 4.4mm balanced out, under $500? Thanks

I would tend to agree, with a 300 ohm load. It will work at moderate volume levels, of course, but not really adequate.

have tried black with DT770-250. too weak
and red with amiron home. too weak.

something from ifi/JDS/schiit/topping would work better

Although it's above your budget, ZEN CAN Signature 6XX was designed specifically for Senns HD 6XX. On a more affordable end, our ZEN CAN would work nicely with these cans too.

But he is looking for a DAC/Amp combo, so he will need a DAC also. I have the iFi Signature stack and it's wonderful, but way over budget.

In fairness, the Zen DAC is also over budget, but not quite as much... maybe he could stretch for it.

I like ifi gear, but on budget, I had a Fiio E10k and it was really nice. Not sure how it will perform on a 300 ohm load...
