I cant wait to take these for a test-listen.

What the hell? Not more than 88,000 yen? o_O That's actually affordable... even for a poor student such as I.

Bugger. What happened? Mass QC fail?

Yup. The paint on the magnesium portion was flaking off. Hopefully it was just a minor snafu and won't be indicative of the build quality of the rest of the headphone. My take is though it sucks to have to wait, it's better they are checking for these things beforehand than releasing an inferior product.

I'm slightly skeptical over the fact that these are Over-the-ear headphones. I'm not aware of any reference headphones being over the ear.
Apart from Grados though.

Unless your have the type of ears that make elephants laugh at you, the D2000/D5000/D7000 fit around your ears. The bottom of the earpad does rest on my earlobes, but I hardly think that qualifies them as fitting over the ear(supra-aural).

The Denon Dx000 are billed--or at least popularly recognized--as circum, not supra, -aural headphones.
