Denon D2000 Vs Audio Technica's

D2000 clarity is terrific.

Bass is "tight and controlled AND has a powerful slam, neither too bassy or muddy".

Mids and highs are very accurate. No flaws are here.

Soundstage has very precise 3D positioning. Its size is just right, neither hyper-expansive or too compressed. D2000 beats both AD900 and AD1000 in terms of soundstage size and quality.

AD700 soundstage is much wider than Denon D2000, but lacks the precision a bit in comparison. AD700 overall SQ is not on par with D2000 though.

W1000 beats D2000 in terms of soundstage (incredible precision and separation), while lacks a bass in comparison. Overall SQ is on par. I prefer D2000 tonal balance, which is more even.

The soundstage on the D2000 is pretty good for a closed pair of headphones.

However it doesn't compare to the AD700s soundstage at all - that was huge when I had them.

I imagine the soundstage would be the same on the AD900s and AD700s.

No, AD700 has better soundstage. BTW, AD700 drivers are angled while AD900s are not.

Which one do you guys thinks is the best overall? and if you have another suggestion that is still within the sub 300$ budget, i greatly appreciate it.

For $300, you can't go wrong with either D2000 or ESW9. I have both and use the ESW9 more often at office and travel. I like the ESW9 more than the D2000, but the D2000 is more comfortable for long sessions. I tend to use the D2000 as background music when I work at home. The ESW9 is awesome for less than $300.

If you like Grado sound (Open design), I can also suggest the MS2i for $299 shipped.

I think Andrew was referring to the fact that OP was asking difference between AT and Denons exclusively - I'm pretty darn sure that andrew knows 780s are ultrasones

And how is the ESW9 SQ compared to the D2000? Is it almost as good or which one is better? (SQ wise)

And for Ultrasone HFI 780, it is not released yet in my country.. actually i was thinking about 2500/750. After reading about their reviews in head-fi, i think it's better to wait for HFI 780.. Maybe when the local store has already got one of em i'll pick it up.

For now i'm really interested in the ESW9 or D2000..

Thanks.

I haven't had D2000's for a while, but I still have the D5000, and it's quite a bit better than the ESW9, but the ESW9 is so very good that it has become my primary portable headphone. Both are terrific, and indeed, as 3x331m said, you really cannot go wrong with either. But for long listening sessions, the D2000 is more comfortable, and for that reason alone, for home use, I think the D2000 is a better choice.
