Im looking to purchase either of these headphones, and i wont be able to audition them first.

I will be listening to trance music as well as producing trance music.

Right now i use onboard audio, but in the future may uprade to a sound card.

Any opinion is needed! THNX

Those Denons work well without an amp, even though they get better with one. D2000 offers a lot of bass, which might be just what you want.

Another endorsement for the D2000. The HFI-2200 might be too easy-going a headphone for your stated tastes/needs. When Meier Audio sold the HFI-2200, they were marketed as the "wine and candlelight" headphones, on the smooth and mellow side--which they definitely are. Again, that doesn't sound like what you're after.

If the D2000 is going to sound like the D5000 after it's modded, my vote goes to the D2000. If not... Wine and candlelight. Your soundcard is horrible, may I add... Do some smart shopping and get a USB soundcard, per say M-Audio's or Creative if you can't scoop enough cash. Let me add that I sold my HFI-2200ULE for 110. That was a great deal for the guy who bought it and didn't leave feedback

I would definitely look at Ultrasones, perhaps not the HFI-2200 but the HFI-780 which I have is the best I've heard for this genre so-far. Don't go with the Denons, they are not for trance, they can handle slower electronic music like hip hop but definitely think they are situated better towards replicating wooden instrumenents.

True. If you are not constrained to either the HFI-2200 or the D2000, then the HFI-780 would serve you even better. A used pair of Proline 750 might serve you even better still. : )
