Just wondering if anyone's directly compared these two? I will be using them mainly at home for listening off an ipod. I mainly listen to pink floyd/led zeppelin/radiohead but i'll listen to anything depending on my mood. I can get the d2000 for $NZ 200 (about 150 USD), or the d1000 for half of that brand new from the NZ equivalent of ebay. But only for about the next week or so! Currently i've just got the little sennheiser cx300s. I'll keep using them for on-the-go listening but i don't find them particularly comfortable for at home use.

So basically...are the d2000s worth the price difference? ($150 US c.f. $75 US). Or would my money be better spent on the d1000s + a CMoy amp? Keep in mind that if i buy the d2000s i'll be listening to them unamped.

Thanks

I think the D2000 would be better (and you can markl mod them, not sure if you can do that with D1000, but probably) than the D1000, and as for using them unamped, I sure hope so since I just bought them too.

i just got the d2000 today and I'm very dissapointed by its sound quality. I can notice only a small difference between this and the sennheiser pc131.
I'm using the Indigo Echo Dj with no amp.

The biggest problem some people first have is playing medium to low quality audio files (e.g. from limewire). You won't be hearing poor headphones as you may think, you'll just be hearing how poorly encoded your audio files are. an amp helps too.
The d2000 for that price is very cheap and there's a big difference between the d1000 and d2000 so I'd go for that if I were you.

Give them time to burn in . I had the same feelings when I first heard these cans , but using pink noise and burning in 200 hours have changed things dramatically -

I owned Echo DJ and D2000. DJ has very clean and neutral amp. Unfortunately, it is not powerfull enough for D2000. Meier Move or iBasso D2 drive them much better.

Improvements are punchier, deeper bass, better details and instrument separation, wider and more 3D sound stage.

For $150 or $100 you may get Bithead or Airhead correspondingly. I may compare DJ to Airhead in a couple of days to learn if Airhead is better more powerfull than DJ onboard amp. BTW, DJ DAC is miles ahead of Bithead DAC.

the consensus around here is that although the denons are @25ohms they are current hungry and come to life when amped. also you need to burn them in for atleast 150 hours. I was listening to it out of my computer (audigy 4 pro headphone jack) and dj mixer. when I finally got my zero DAC/Amp it was a major improvement for them (180 shipped USD). I am expecting to receive my X Can V8 on monday, the final day and half of waiting is painful.

However I did run them straight out of the headphone jack of my zune 80 and its performance is not that bad at all. Only when you hook them up to an amp do you realize what you have been missing.

Although

Hey, I am thinking of getting the d1000's as a cheap + comfy office set. Will likely be amping *thinking Millet min*. I liked my es7's, but they isolate too much and aren't comfy enough for 8 hours. My initial comparison of the two together with my modded es7's was one of the es7's beating them. Does modding the d1000 make much of a difference?

also, anyone got both these and a700's? I am working on memory of both and a direct comparison would be nice.

sorry for a bit of a thread-jack, but you might be interested.
