Denon AH-7200

I found the TH900 to absolutely suck, good tech but some of the worse treble and metallic timbre I've heard I hope the D7200 doesn't have that issue!

It's evolved from that

I didn't really get a decent answer in the linked review a couple pages back about how the 7200 compares to the old AH-D7000 (or even the 5000) which is what I've currently owned the past near-decade.  Anyone possibly can chime in?

I'm itching to upgrade (over ear closed, btw) and while I still love the old AH-D7000, I think I want something a bit more forward sounding and not quite so neutral as the old Denons and am hoping the 7200's fit the bill.

BTW, I'm powering them with a Marantz HD-DAC1.

I will consider D7200 a side grade to D7000, maybe a little more resolving. D7000 is still a great headphone by today's standard just like many other flagships but will have issues of aging and availability. D7200 is great option/substitute of it's predecessor.

I may be wrong here but the D7200 is potentially tuned similarly to a D5000/7000 with Lawton mods. From what I remember about the D5000, it had too much mid-bass. The D7000 fixed that a little, the D7100 too much and the D7200 IMO just right.

In fact, "just right" is about correct on how the D7200 handles things. A D7000 with less mid-bass bloat, midrange recession and peaky treble. Also keep in mind that the MSRP is the same ($999). A sidegrade if you wanna call it that, but for me the D7200 has a more mature sound than the D7000.

i just got my pair ,, initial impression :

- I like them ,, fostex soul for sure
- nice sound stage , not big as the TH-900
- Treble is balanced and not harsh (it lean to the bright side)
- bass is more than enough ,, mids a bit forward than the TH-900
- details and imaging is perfect
- the whole tune change dramatically with cable swapping , i tried (Z1R , Elear) stock cables ..
- withe the Elear cable it get wormer and more smooth .. i love it ..
-  build quality is amazing ,, box is nice , not bad ..
- pads attachment is different than the fostex ( no more white rings )
- head band a little bit stiff ,, and its smaller than usual ,, big heads need to try it maybe it will not fit.

For sure its better than the TH-X00 or Emu Teak ,, MUCH BETTER .
Now i am burning them ..

Do you have the E-MU Teak? Can you compare them a bit more? Take your time though and enjoy this headphone.

Edit: Ok, I see you have tons of headphones. Looking forward to a great comparison.

After briefly owning the 7100 I do not want the same driver, just my opinion. I own the z7 and like it, but reading the z1 thread, most think it is not the same driver.
Can you point me to info that the z1 is the z7 driver ? Thanks

It's not the same. Same size yes... But there are different materials used.

Sorry the Emu Teak is not with me anymore ,,
i didnt like them although they had good build quality
from memory they lacked the bass quality ,,
also they didnt have the capability with complex music for good separation ..
to the contrary 7200 have better bass and the tune and details are very good..
