Denon 7100?
May 28, 2013 at 4:04 PM Post #2 of 16
I have had the D7100 or a couple months now and recently just got a Momentum in out of curiosity. After a couple hours they brightened up a bit (sounded dark and distant out of the box) but still retained that warm signature. Vocals still sound a bit recessed as well. D7100 is quite a bit brighter than the Momentum, sound stage is also much larger and better layering/separation (of course, considering the huge difference in size). Comfort wise D7100 wins over Momentum by a long shot (What Senn, headphones for ants???).

Still you may want to look into the D600 first, TBH I think the D600 offers way better value than the D7100 at $300-400. The D600 is also warmer so more forgiving to bad recordings.

Thanks they sound more like what I need, the 7100's I mean. I'm using lossless files anyway.

You can find D600's for $230ish (at least in the states). Well worth that and more. Love mine.

I thought all of head-fi despised the new Denons?

Seems that way.........I make up my own mind. I like them. A lot. Have the old D2K as well. Like that too. A lot. :D

Mostly just people who expect Denon to release something that beats the TH900 at half the price.

Apparently sucking Apple's balls is how you make profit these days, not making the best products possible.

Been listening for the past two hours, comfort wise they beat my Momentum's no question, however I expected the earpads to be bigger, probably just me, but was expecting more HD800 size, not a major issue as they're still comfortable.

Sound wise, still too early to give a definitive answer, however overall happy with them, using the AK120 it's pretty good for dance music so far. Bass is stronger than I'm used to, but I've turned it down slightly with the EQ.

I've bought mine in UK too. Good price for a good headphone. You will appreciate.

Glad you like the 7100! I might also keep the Momentum, it sounds good enough to pass all my tests, just comfort remains a concern, but it actually doesn't hurt that much.
