De'Mun / Bengkel Macro

Thanks! I hate the kind that makes you need to adjust every time you look both ways to cross the street or other movements just walking around fairly normal-like. I do have Earhoox as well if need be but good to know they are livable before hand.

Me too, very bad experience with acrolink silver coated cable, good sound, good cosmetic, but feels like wearing a hard-wire around your neck that ready to hanging-up your head.. hahaha.

I hate hate hate earhoox. I'd never use an earbud that didnt work without them... that said, Red Demon is definitely sensitive to fit. Getting the right fit Is extremely rewarding and bass extension is quite impressive.

I think most of us wouldn't use them if not needed nor any other type of fit aid. Obvious straight normal earbud fit would be preferred but I'll take earhoox or the other equivalents over a bud starting to work it's way out of one of my ears every seven steps I take :) Though I get along fine with the normal size. Large is useless and slitting the side of foams is extra PIA work to do.

IMO the rubber rings or double foaming ensures best fit, i'm enjoying mine with rings under monk foams.

In this case I know, from having the P180 before, I won't really need anything but the right foams. Though I did try the caps from these... http://av.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL029423&pathId=137&page=1... for a short time on the Edifier and liked the result so I would probably investigate those again over any earhooks if I had any decent fit/stability issue with a V3. That these use the Edifier housing is certainly one of the draws for me going in.

I compared the stock H180 to the Red Demon today. Crazy how much of a difference there is - really hard  to believe they're made from the same core parts?

Here is a photo of the Bengkel powered setup I was rocking today. I was using the iPod with the LOD earlier, so I wanted to include it in the shot, even though the bMac 3CH MK2 is now powered from my USB DAC.

I absolutely love the bMac 3CH MK2, if it had just a little more output power it could replace all my other amps with no question or hesitation. I love mine. 2 headphone outs at different resistances rules IMO. The internal battery can easily be disconnected (9v batt style plug) so if you just want to run it at the desk, leave the battery at 2/3ish charge after the initial charge/discharge and then disconnect it for best battery conditioning

If two months from now, you still think this stuff sounds great, I will consider pulling the trigger. I recently found out that I maybe suffer from the "new toy syndrome", because the gear I´ve bought in the last 2 months sounded great at first(Monk+, Fiio AM2, Neutron App, Bocur 75 Ohm adapter), but didn´t survive the long time listening test. I´ll be very cautious before I buy new things in the future, and when I buy something, I´ll give it 2 months minimum, before I´ll say anything about the SQ.

I'll for sure make it be known if i'm still using all this gear in 2 months, which is an eternity for me, i usually go through stuff pretty quickly.

most of the time under a week i know for sure if it's a keeper or not, not too often it takes me longer than that to know if i'll like something or not

either way i will absolutely post if it survives the honeymoon phase, but i have a good feeling it will.

I recently learned Bengkel does an annual run of 100-200 customized CMOY designs for local low-budget audiophiles and budding audiophiles. Of course we all know CMOY isn't anything new, but it's time tested, a great newbie gateway to better stuff (exactly what they're aiming for), and always sell  each unit for under $25USD, to keep it affordable for Indonesian locals which I really appreciate :)

I probably will never get my hands on one of these - messed with CMOY plenty back when I was new to this site - but an effort to keep the low budget and get more people into hi-fi, this is a great locally-oriented effort to do so IMO :)

Pretty impressive for a 100-200 piece budget amp run, huh?

Forgot to ask you.
Does bMac amp have a gain selector?

Forgot to ask you.
Does bMac amp have a gain selector?

Sadly no.
I hope in the future versions they give it a higher maximum output power rating (it's enough to get my SZ2000's to rattle, which is an awesome sign, but I want MORE!!!!) and give it a gain switch.

Sorry the pic isn't the best... but it's in use and I didn't want to unplug the cables...

Leftmost is input, middle is normal headphone out, right is 75 ohm headphone out.

You can kind of use the normal vs 75 ohm out as a sort of gain selector - 75 ohm output will be more like a "low gain" sound.

My red charge LED is a bit crooked because I was rushing a bit much last time I took my bMac apart to take gut shots, so I gotta re-straighten out that LED i bent a little bit.

I ask you because in the mk1 specs, a gain selector is mentioned but on the pcb, the yellow thing but I am not a specialist.

i didn't realize until just now. all the opamps are socketed for easy rolling
biggrin.gif

may have to do a lot of rolling on my bMAC!!!

i have some BIG PLANS already to see if i can with two IC swaps make this thing way different sounding?

@Fabi
I checked out the whole MK1 specs, couldn't find anything on the builds themselves about a gain switch, nor anything in the descriptions about it. I wonder if it was a planned feature that never made it and ended up making its way into the production version of the page by accident?

Okay thanks vapman.

Yeah the opamp rolling is interesting for me, even though I know nothing about this :D

I don't think I copied this info from the earbuds thread.

If anyone wants one of these and loves to roll opamps,,, we have a nice cheap contender here which sounds quite nice.... under $110, should be under or around $150usd shipped by itself via express mail?

keep in mind indonesian post is strict about batteries being shipped outside the country, and the bmac manual was not finished yet when i got my 3CH MK2 (which i still use exclusively and daily and very happily and am happy with every dollar i spent)

but!!!

BUT!!!!!!!

all you have to do is unscrew the 4 #00 philips screws from the front, slide the board out, attach the 9v plug to the battery, THEN start your 8-12 hours charge before using. if you are eager to start using it right away, just use a 12v 1a (or higher) PSU positive polarity psu if they don't have one ready for your region's plug size.  Here's a pic of the PSU of my bMac as they sent it, 9v clip disconnected, just snap it on and get to charging.

they accidentally sent a EU plug instead of USA plug, but i was their first USA customer so i don't blame em for being unprepared  luckily 12v positive polarity is easy to find, and although the stock PSU is 2A, the amp itself says 1A max. lucily i had a spare around which worked perfectly.
