Hey folks,

Just got my Er6i and love the fit and the sound for the most part but... and it's a big but... I get really bad distortion at the low end mostly apparent for bass drum hits. I'm using an ipod nano - CMOY BB - with the bass boost on. Maybe the BB is too much for it? I was using my head direct RE2's and didn't have any problems with distortion.

So my question is, do I have a defective set or is this just how they are?

EDIT: I turned the BB off and the distortion goes away, but again, the RE2's didn't distort under the same conditions.

Why don't you just use the ER6i with Nano and check if the distortion continue to exist?

The er-6i's are VERY sensitive. You absolutely don't need a CMOY+Bass Boost for those kinds of phones. Turn it off, and better yet disconnect the amp. 16ohm headphones don't really get much from an amp except some hiss...

I don't know the RE2 so I can't say much. Higher impedance?

Yes, I know you don't NEED an amp, but it does make them sound better to my ears for sure. In any case, it seems that they're probably not defective, just not a good candidate for bass amplication.
