I found this DC/DC converter (may need to scroll down some) and was wondering if it would adequately drive a tube headphone amp. It states that it will take 12V, 3A input and produce +/-100V at what I guess would be 150-180mA or so.

It looks interesting, if its specs are decent enough for audio. Using this could make a decent portable tube amp, which could be powered by a wallwart at home or cigarette jack in the car. What do you all think?

i think that those are ment more for powering small electro-luminescent films.

for a tube amp, you may like the results of getting a 12V-120vac inverter, and then running whatever power transformer you want.

alternately, a hybrid amp with low voltage tubes may suit you.

there are a fiew portable low-voltage tube amps available if you look about.

For that price it would be impossible to build something with enough
power to do a tube amp. There are switchers that do this, but you
are looking at more like $500 and up.

why not use a 12vdc-->120vac power inverter into a normal tube power transformer?

a 600W power inverter is like $50 on ebay. you can easily get away with less if you run the tube heaters straight off of the 12V supoly of the car. maybee with a regulator if necessary for voltage....
