Darkest Desires PART THREE

ET
I must commend you on your discriminating taste...........the DIMMU BOGIR song "entrance" is one of the greatest black/dark metal songs ever, Shagrath's vocal treatments are godlike and swirling atmospheric keyboard is magnificent........now imagine Dimmu performing that track at night on stage set in gothics ruins of an abbey/cathederal, yesssssssssss!

Also I agree that MDB "gods" is not among their very best works, but still well worth having especially in remastered form. My ranking of MDB albums;
1)swans
2)angel
3)dreadful hours
4)light end of world
5)songs of darkness
6)gods of sun
7)other albums

Check out more from the 50 list above.........if you wallet permits.

Regarding the live video clip: And unlike many live recordings the vocals are very good/accurate to the studio recording. Yes, at the very least, night would have made a much more affective filming. Daylight robs the visual performance somewhat. A no-brainer to me.

Here is some old news that I just picked up on.
Cradle of Filth signed with Roadrunner Records.

I wonder what happened with Sony?

Now they are working on a new album. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it sounds like it should be better than their last one, I hope. Here is a snippet by bassist David Pybus from their website. Quote:

This is the first week of the NYMPHETAMINE session at Parkgate studios. Already things are starting to take shape and the basic tracking is being done for 8 songs. There will be more as we go on. This is just drums, bass and 2 guitar tracks with guide vocals. No keys yet and overdubbs are being done all the time. It's the first time I've recorded live since my old band (Dreambreed) back in the mid 90's. It's an idea producer Rob Caggiano wanted to try after hearing the songs in the pre-production stage a few weeks ago. It's more about capturing atmosphere and feel than quontized computer accuracy. The overall feel is great

Look for the news section at the Cradle of Filth website

I wonder what the addition of another guitarist will do for the CoF sound, we shall see. i've been out of the loop on this music lately (on a classical kick lately).

I didn't even waste my time getting the last few releases from COF, their "new" style is not very good IMHO. I still like their 1st 4 releases however :

The Principle of Evil Made Flesh
Vempire or Dark Fairytales in Phallustein [EP]
Dusk & Her Embrace
Cruelty and the Beast

Everything else is pretty much crap as far as I am consern.

I would still include "midian" in the group of very good albums, but DAAD the newest album is definitely not as good, I wouldn't say it is terrible but not very good either

I liked Midian at 1st but it didn't have the staying power of the rest, it's just too shallow. So I sold my copy, I also got rid of all my COF CDs not listed above.

I still have hope that the new album will good. It seems like they are taking a different approach than they did for the last one. Other than DAAD and the greatest hits album what was the one since C&tB? There was a live album, which kinda sucked.
And I must disagree with DarkAngel, Damnation album sucks, big time.

On anther note, I need some new music. I don't care much for the doom sound, any new faster harder stuff out there? Like I love Children of Bodom lately, and Immortal's Damned in Black and Darkthrone's Ravishing Grimness. These are all fast and rythmic.

Boy you guys are tough critics........DAAD has been flamed crispy!

KR
I have owned the 1st three Danzig albums for some time, but never got any subsequent albums. Because the were so cheap(couple bucks each) I picked up 555, 666, 777 aka:
-blackacideveil
-satan's child
-luciferi

Black Acid unfortunately is almost a complete waste of time for me, Danzig tries to do his version of NIN "fragile" with slow industrial rock dirges but other than a couple OK tracks this rolls snake eyes and should be avoided.

Satan's Child & Luciferi show improvement and feature a different direction that is close to recent Rob Zombie work and more enjoyable for me........will keep these in my collection and spin them occasionally but not as good as prime works like "lucifuge" and "how gods kill"

It's the same thing with Danzig with me, argh... I LOVE the 1st 4 albums and the ep and singles, but damn it blackacideveil had to come out and it's been all downhill from there. But, yes if you like Zombie then you will like the last two, but I remembered when Danzig sounded like no one else. BTW, 4p is super underated! That album sounds really killer with my stax system. I never got 777 since I gave up on them, anyway they are working on a new one right now, BTW. Anything can happen when it comes to COF and Danzig, afterall, just look at Moonspell! Who knew that had new that album in them?

The only fast stuff I been listening to is Power and Prog metal, and that's not very dark or anything

That said there are some bands that might offer what you are looking for :

THE WAKE - Ode To My Misery

New release on Finland’s Spikefarm Records. The Wake delivering awesome melodic death metal album, full with Scandinavian death metal riffage & shredding solos. Fans of early Dark Tranquillity, Throne of Chaos and even Children of Bodom take note! Great release!!!!

ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW - Chaotic Beauty

The latest album by this great band from Finland features ultra melodic black metal with strong influences from Children Of Bodom.

NORTHER - Dreams Of Endless War

Fans of Kalmah and Children of Bodom, this is the album for you! Finland’s Norther debut album on Spinefarm records delivers ultra technical and virtuoso power with lots of neo-classical influences, shredding guitars, and keyboard harmonies. The vocals are a bit growly and rough though but fit the concept of the music.

ARISE - The Godly Work Of Art

Imagine the technical guitar display of Children of Bodom, the melancholic atmosphere of late Dark Tranquility era & the brutality of the bay-area Death/Thrash metal acts; sounds good? This is ARISE! Rising from Sweden, Arise unleashed an excellent debut album. Death! Kill! Destroy! A must have for every Swedish death metal fan.
Featuring a wild cover version of Metallica’s “Motorbreath”& comes in a great digipak.
Indeed Godly!

SINERGY - Suicide By My Side

This all superstars power metal band features Kimberly Goss (Dimmu Borgir, Ancient & Therion), Tommi Lillman (To Die For) & Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom)! Sinergy successfully combine female power metal vocals with astonishing rhythm section and traditional heavy metal for all the headbangers out there.

EVEMASTER - Wither

Hailing from Finland, Evemaster have been steadily building their status as one of Finland's most unique and exciting metal acts. Originally formed in 1996 by multi musician T.Mykkänen and singer J.Taskula this group developed as what can be described as nature-inspired Scandinavian black metal. They released a demo and two full length releases, the latest one being the acclaimed "Lacrimae Mundi." The band got working on a follow-up and concentrated on taking their unique style another step further.

With "Wither" Evemaster experiment with more progressive elements, blending their Nordic black metal roots with Scandinavian old school thrash (a la Tarot) and a new wave alternative rhythm section (Children of Bodom style). Each song is constantly evolving, ranging from mellow acoustic passages to keyboard driven prog and Finnish black metal.

"Wither" was recorded at the famous Astia Studios (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene etc.)and features a steller cast of musicians with Jaska Raatikainen (Children Of Bodom) on drums, Marco Hietala (Nightwish/Tarot), Mika Lindberg (Colonian, Cradle Of Filth, Mortiis) on clean male vocals and Late Penttilä (ex-Horna, Satanic Warmaster).

SHADOW - S/T

Debut Album for this great newcomer from Japan. Melodic up temp and well played Swedish-inspired Death/Black Metal. Strong influenced from Children Of Bodom. Fronted by a female vocalist with killer growls!

I'll assume 'Songs of Darkness' has been received unfavorably? Still a fan of 1 & 5, i've grown fond of 'Catharine Blake' once it kicks in (1:50), but I've been a fan of her husband's work always anyway, affecting my objectivity. No Way, Never

KR
Do you own those albums in your descriptions above?
I have all albums by:
-ETOS (eternal tears of sorrow)
-SINERGY
-NORTHER
-KALMAH

BTW......ETOS broke up several years ago, members from that group went on to later form KALMAH.

I do not own any of those albums, I heard samples only.

You assume incorrect! But, I only listened to it once thus far, however, the madness of the mania of my extreme deadline of my thesis is done, so now i will have what those call, free time. There are tons of DVD's and Cd's here that I haven't gotten around to listening too. Of course, I came down with a cold and I don't feel like doing much of anything right now.
