Darkest Desires PART THREE

Dec 7, 2003 at 3:28 PM Post #361 of 671
More CDs have arrived
Draconian
Antimatter
Swallow the Sun
Theatres des Vampires

Draconian - Where Lovers Mourn
This is very very good B/B, not quite ready to unseat the best available, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Tempos tend to be a bit on the slow/doomy side in places, rich orchestration and solo instrument passages, male death vocals have the necessary sinister effect, female vocals very good but not quite as pristine as Vibeke of Tristania, will give this 9/10.

Perhaps next album will make serious assault to de-throne reigning gods of B/B......Tristania 1 & 2nd albums. Great effort for 1st album, shows much promise, I will definitely get next album.

I agree with this, the tempo is a bit sluggish at time, but for a first outting it's very respectable. Will be in my rotation for a while I think.

I may need to make a "Compilation" disc of all my favorite B&B songs.

Antimatter - Savoir + Lights out
"Savior" is pretty good but not great, a trip hop Pink Floyd style. Two bonus tracks are lame acoustic versions of album tracks,
I can only really give this 7.5/10.

"Lights out" is really disappointing, boring tedious long drawn out tracks that wander aimlessly, 3/10 and a sell.

I hope I did not ruffle some feathers here, but must call a spade a spade.

Nice site! Thanks for the tip.

It's too bad about Stratovarius kicking out Timo K. and Jorg, but maybe it will be for the better, since these last few albums since Infinte have been extremely cookie cutter and not very compelling IMO. Maybe Jorg can go back to playing for 5 different german metal bands like he used to

I got Mago de Oz - Gaia and that will be my last album for 2003 and I must say that it's my pick for the best album of 2003, metal or not. Mago de Oz plays celtic folk metal. The folk part are the violin and flute players who play most of the solos! The metal part ranges from power metal, progressive metal, maiden type epic metal, neo-classical metal, 70's hard rock, and prog rock. There is also classical, jazz and other styles of folk in there as well. This album comes with a DVD as well. The DVD is made up of interviews and behind the scenes type of stuff plus a music video for their single, which sounds like a single if you know what I mean. It's catchy as hell, but not as metal as the rest of the CD. It comes packed in a "digi pack" which is not really a digipack at all but a hardcover book! It also has a slipcover for it, the book is printed on thick high quality paper. I'll give this album 10/10!!!

So if this sounds like something you might be into, then get it ASAP! The End does sell it, that's where I got my copy.

Well, yeah I know, it's hard to get people to try a new band for that type of money. You do get your money's worth, but maybe you should build up to that album, rather than start there. It would be like someone getting one of the SE Dimmu album as their 1st.

So, let me break things down :
