Short version: trying to hook up my new Denon AVR 591 and Denon DVD 1930Ci player for the first time, I had turned the volume up accidentally and when I hit play the volume in the Sennheiser HD 580 headphones was way too high--actually painful. I shut it down and started over. I noticed in FM station mode I was hearing some buzzing in the background and wonder if I have damaged the HD 580 drivers.  I am now listening to the phones on a Sony CD player with volume control and they seem alright, but can't be sure.

Related question: Can these phones wear out? I have had them for about five years. Will watch for posts, and thanks.

Usually, quality headphones will last for years with the occasional need to replace certain parts such as worn out ear pads and such.  I've done this accidentally myself to a few of my headphones and they've all turned out fine so, I wouldn't worry too much.
