Well, I'd have to say I was not very impressed with my Meridian 808.2 (CDP). The ODAC doesn't sound convincing to me, either. But with some good cables, they are listenable.

HeadAmp uses a AYRE QB-9 for all it's show demos....

2.5 years resurrection, not bad ;-) There have been several new owners of TotalDAC gear on this board since... Two of us at least use it with BHSE/SR-009 combo.

I recently ordered the Lampizator GG.  Was really interested in TotalDAC as well but trade in on my existing Lampizator was too good.  Need to do a head to head comparison one of these days between those two dacs.

And eventually I'll be increasing that number, albeit with - most likely - the SR007 :)

Since Justin uses a AYRE QB-9 for all it's BHSE demos, and I liked his set-up a lot , I am tempted by the new QX-5 twenty DAC (instead of a DAVE) to go with my BHSE + SR009 that I should get in 1 week.

The QX-5 is also ROON ready, a Tidal/network streamer....

Any comment on this choice ?

I suggest the Hugo TT which has some fine darkness compared to the original Hugo and the touch of forgivingness in the highs which complements the SR009 well. I would avoid any dac that is said to be revealing or even neutral to a fault; the 009 will be revealing enough and extract all the information you need. The Hugo TT is blissfully musical with that nice Chord flow but will not assault you no matter what kind of music you throw at it.

This is a good suggestion.  Plus it is transportable for my week-ends.

Thanks Bmichels. I know there is some lively back-and-forth about the Hugo TT and its price vs. the Yggy and others, but there is a special sound I hear in the TT that is just like musical candy. It's one of those things that's hard to define but just keeps me listening intently. And the 009 really needs some candy to make it happy.

Finally.... my BHSE arrived in his new home in Belgium and found his place besides my EC445 (that is now for sale :-).

Very little sleep planed for the next nights

and quite a warm room with all those tubes...

Next step of course is the upgrade of the HUGO to a better DAC.

--> I will try to organise here in Belgium a micro-canjam with 2 friends who have a DAVE and a TotalDAC to compare with my BHSE.

If anyone close to Brugge/Bruxelles also want to bring his TOL DAC to try on my BHSE or just to listen to my BHSE... you are welcome

Besides the DAVE & TotalDAC D1, the other DAC on my list are the new AYRE QX-5, TotalDAC-TUBE-Mk2,  the ORPHEUS Absolute media server, CH Précision C1, Nagra HD Dac. , the Mark Levinston N° 519 and.. the Brinkmann »Nyquist« DAC.

But now I have no possibility to hear any of those since they are brand new Or are not sold by my dealers.   If someone already heard them, please advice...
