Do AKM chips have treble rollback relative to ESS chips?

The short answer is 'technically no, but it depends.'

The long answer is, most DAC chips have different digital filter built in that will give slightly different level of treble.. You can have one particular AKM DAC chip having more treble than one particular ESS chips with different filter settings on both; but you can also have the exact same AKM chip having less treble than the exact same ESS chip with another set of filter settings on both. Of course, you can eve have the same AKM and ESS having more or less the same level of treble if the filter settings are similar.
