DAC and Headphone Amplifier · Streaming Media Receiver · Local Playback All in One Unit, FIIO K17 Is Officially Released!

This is the next generation desktop decoding headphone amplifier. It is a symphony of retro elegance and cutting-edge technology, featuring a unique design and rich functionality all wrapped in a powerful package. The FIIO K17 is not only the upgraded successor to the K9 Pro, it is also an exploration of new possibilities for a high-end desktop DAC and headphone amplifier.

31-band high-precision lossless PEQ

The K17 features an M21586Q DSP chip which is capable of double-precision 64-bit floating-point calculations, and runs at a high 360MHz clock frequency. This chip is complemented by a high-performance ES9821Q ADC as well as a specially customized ultra-low phase noise femtosecond crystal oscillator. These three components allow the user, in all modes, to utilize the 31-band high-precision lossless PEQ. The PEQ is designed to ensure the audio signal is still of high fidelity even after being processed.

When adjusting PEQ on the K17, PCM 44.1k~96k signals can be originally processed. Fine adjustments of audio parameters are thus possible, allowing for adjustments such as a gain range of +12~-24dB and a Q value range of 0.4dB~128dB. The PEQ allows the user to simulate or correct the frequency response curve PEQ settings can be easily exported, imported, shared, and saved - making it easy for anybody to use the PEQ and correct or simulate various frequency response curves of different headphones.

AKM flagship DAC, AK4191+AK4499EX*2

In the K17 is the flagship AKM DAC chip combination - AK4191+AK4499EX*2. Two AK4499EX chips handle each channel. The 8-channel to 4-channel LPF design reduces common mode interference, resulting in better channel separation and dynamics. It also features a newly designed architecture with fully separated digital/analog portions, which also incorporates the newly developed “DWA ROUTING” technology for an even cleaner audio background and improved resolution.

Discrete class AB transistor current amplification headphone amplifier

It is the first time FIIO has used a discrete amplifier circuit for headphones in the K17. This discrete circuit is of an OP+ transistor current amplification design, equipped with the classic pair of ON Semiconductor MJE243/253 transistors. It is capable of producing high current with low output impedance. The result is up to 4000mW+4000mW output power in balanced mode, nearly double that of the K9 Pro ESS. This allows it to easily drive various kinds of headphones and IEMs and to produce smooth, pleasant, and natural sound.

Say I have the S15 as the main setup and I have music library on the SSD slot.
Can I have the K17 in my other room to access the same music if both devices connect to the same LAN network?

So the K19 has the ESS DAC chip and the K17 has the AKM DAC chip. I think I'd lean towards the AKM in the K17 maybe.
Although the K19 has more power 8000w for those with hard to drive headphones... compared to 4000w on the K17.
K19 probably has more Punch and Slam for those who like the Hard Rock and Metal genres. Seems like 2 really solid FiiO offerings.

It's interesting to compare them because I listen to metal.

Idk how that’s strange. Maybe they didn’t have official FiiO store on Aliexpress until then lol?

I was between Topping DX9 or D90 III Discrete + amp, but I knew FiiO was preparing something nice. AKM chips (I saw it comming, @FiiO  ) + discrete transistor amplifier + PEQ + linear power supply. I think that may be it.

As always, I'll wait for the reviews, but...

K19 is a one and done dac amp for me. I was tempted by the K17 but ended up cancelling my order. K19 sounds great and the 31 PEQ is just ridiculous. All of my headphones are A to S tier now with EQ filter profiles, it's just awesome. The only real practical thing I like about the K17 over the K19 is the physical switches to change output and gain, instead of having to go through a menu. Also wondering how handy that touch-screen is for switching EQs. But K19 is intuitive enough, especially with the remote. One other benefit of K17 is the RCA Input, so you can hook up a turntable to it. I've bought into the discrete AMP stuff too... but with the EQ, I'm not really sure it matters. It makes such a big improvement; general source gear differences feel kind of pointless to me now.

Reasonable points. I just feel that the AKM chips are more to my taste.
