Heyya Guys! This is my first post, and unsurprisingly it's because I need your help:
I'm an audio professional, and I need a DAC/AMP for my editing system. My system is:
Macbook Pro > digidesign Mbox2 > Grado SR125 / AKG240DF
My problems are A) the mbox sounds like a brittle plastic box when used with Grados, and it the mbox can't adequately drive 600Ohm AKGs (especially when I'm editing dialog with an average level of -30dbFS)
So, my preference would be to use the grados if I can, but they're really shrill. I use the AKGs when I want things duller and when I need more separation from ambient noise... but the Grados are definitely more comfortable 8+ hours a day.
So... I'm looking at the NuForce Icon HDP as my DAC/AMP, because I can feed it coax from the mbox (and feed it optical directly from the macbook when I upgrade to Pro Tools 9), but I'm worried about the sound with the Grados... will the highs still rip my head off, or will it bring some bottom end back to the table?
Any alternative suggestions guys?
Cheers,
Dustin.
