From my personal experience with a pair of D2000s over the course of a week is that I didn't like them in stock form but they really start to shine with some mods. I think $218 is a real good price because with a little bit of work, they will sound like more expensive 'phones.

As for the loose screw issue. Have no idea if Denon has resolved it but there is a very easy proactive measure you can take. Use a bit of threadlock. If you use Loctite, I suggest blue since it is meant to be broken with not too much force. In other words, it isn't permanent. Just a little dab will do ya.

Warrior05, Thanks for the tip on the screw(loctite)...that doesn't sound right at all after typing it...appreciate your opinion most definitely...I'll look up the mods for the d2000....oh and rushnerd is your Username in reference to the band Rush?....if so, I happen to be listening to Snakes & Arrows at this particular moment in time and I own every cd...have owned them all at least twice.

If you don't like boominess why are you even looking at a closed back in the first place? I really struggle to see how the D2000 is more boomy than the likes of the DT770 or HFI-780.

Clear fingernail polish can also work as a poor mans threadlocker. It's likely you already have some in the house. It would be used for a low strength easy to break bond on the threads.

When I take my D2000 apart to mod them I'll take a look at that screw and decide whether to threadlock it. It seems the problems with that screw getting lose have been with early builds of the headphone so I'm not concerned about it.

Well, the bass of this D2000 is really, really nice once it is modded: tight, has a visceral impact and weighty. That alone is worth the admission of the entire modding process.

! I'm missing 2-3 of their albums but I have most of them on Vinyl and am starting to complete the CD collection too, nothing beats Rush on a nice pair of phones. I even saw them live on the 30th anniversary tour, perfection.

You MUST grab the 96Hz/24-Bit Dvdaudio master of Snakes & Arrows, talk about an audiophiles dream!! It sounds exquisite.

I can't wait to spin all my Rush LP's again once I get my whole turntable setup up and running again with my phones.

Also if your wondering, YES the D2000's handle Pearts magic floor tom in the middle of "The Main Monkey Business" PERFECT, gives me chills everytime.

The D*000 series is a failed design. They compromised the sound to make them closed, but for all practical purposes they are open because there is no isolation at all. It would have made more sense to either make them open or closed, not this "worst of both worlds" hybrid.
