I seem to have the worst of luck.
I was remotely conscious of the fact that if I ordered a product from China, it COULD be held up by customs but I figured "what's the chance of that?".
Well, wouldn't you know, my amp is being held at JFK's customs department for possible "trademark violations". I was told this when I decided to look up the number for JFK's customs dept and gave them a call. They were none to friendly by the way. The amp is a very well known and oft-discussed amp on this board and from my few previous posts, it would not take a genius to figure out which one, but since it is not the manufacturer's fault I am not going to list it here.
I am being told by JFK's customs department that yes, my amp has been taken out of the packaging, inspected, and will likely be inspected some more until they are ready to release it. They have had it for a week so far (since 2/25) and they tell me they are under no obligation to release it under any set period of time. USPS tells me that the only obligation of US Customs is to notify me within 45 days (!!!) that my package has been "quarantined".
I went back and re-read the fine print on the terms of sale and the ad does say:
"International Buyers – Please Note:
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.
Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying."
But I have never seen anyone relate any bad experience of having to pay such duties with respect to this oft-discussed product.
I don't think I will order an amp from China again. Something in my gut told me that a Ray Samuels HR2 would be the best way to go.
Anybody else have any bad experience with US customs?
