I was wondering if you guys knew of any good custom transformer manufacturers. I have been trying to get one made for the KGSS for the past month and I am still no where with Victoria Magnetics. Ideally, I would like to stay under <$200 if that is possible. It is the last piece of the puzzle and it is driving me crazy to have the amp built but not be able to run it.

Check out Renco Renco Electronics, Inc.

They have decent prices on small batches and prototypes. Not sure what they would do for personal (not company) orders.

The transformer specs are 2 x 280VAC/150mA, 36VCT/100mA. Thanks for the quick response.

You should get a quote from Sowter and Plitron but I have an inkling that the price will be excessive.

Edit. Hammond 270HX (370HX for dual primaries) is will do for the HV and a 36VCT trafo isn't hard to find.

Edit nr2. Hammond 182H18 is a huge overkill for the 36vCT but bigger is always better

You could also consult Avel Lindberg although I have no idea if they'd fit the under $200 category for a one-off trafo. I wonder if it would be easier to find separate trafos for each? The 30VCT doesn't strike me as being all that awkward a spec, the 280V/150A I have no clue about.

Yes, I'd like to see that trafo as well.

Actually, given my history I wouldn't want to get anywhere near it!

vt4c.com makes custom r-cores, a one-off costing about $80 iirc.

edcorusa.com does custom transformers as well with a $20 design/setup fee for quantities under 10.

I am planning to use either the 100w R80-46 from diyclub.biz, or a pair of toroids from Antek, probably AN-1T300 and AN-0220, when I build mine.

Does anyone have any experience with the Antek toroids? Their prices and selection seem reasonable. I'm considering using them for my B24.
