Yes, iAudio 7 has a clear hiss goin' on! So does D2. But, since it has a dropped mid range it feels like it's less comparing to i7. Anyway, I don't find it bothering while actual listening.

I only hear the hiss when everything is right after boot, and nothing is playing. When I press play, hiss goes away and music plays w/o hiss.

I have the iAudio 7 combined with UE Sfi 5 Pro IEM's, and I hear close to no hiss. I only hear low hiss on bad (low bit rate encoded) mp3's. So I'm very satisfied.
Usually I listen to volume level 15-17 (of 40), with no attuenator attached. EQ very close to flat. Everything off, except mach3bass at 2.

Shigzeo: How sensitive are the westone's um2 compared to Sfi 5 Pro by the way? I see you mention that volumes at level 5-8 is enough.

I own a Cowon D2, and I get no hiss with the Super.fi 5 Pros nor with the Atrio M5's. As well, my recently acquired Ultrasone HFI-780 cans also do not hiss with this player.

I've just got a new pair of Denon AH-C700s and there's noticeable hiss when there's nothing playing, as well as when stuff is playing. It's not a problem for Dub and rock, but it's a bit annoying when listening to something like Arvo Pärt, with a lot of quiet parts and silence. I have the volume below 20 all the time (sensitive ears), so it's a bit annoying. Do you think it could be anything to do with the lack of burn-in on the Denons? (I'm new to this game, so apologies if that's a dumb question...)

my denon c700 hissed with the d2 as well, but only a very little. the d2 is really quite quiet in comparison to other portables. the only other one i have heard that is as good is the nano 3g.

my atrio also could detect hiss with the d2 but... just barely. i am quite sensitive to hiss.

robojack, I also have the super fi 5 pros, how do you find them on the d2? I am seriously considering getting this player and was hoping for good synergy. Or can anyone else recommend a good dap to go with the 5 pros? Good to know that the hiss is minimal....
