are songs like "Gangsta's paradise" by Coolio still considered covers despite all the changes? I've never been clear about that.
in the 70's-80's we had French singers who made most of their careers by taking a US hit and putting some random french words over the US lyrics. sometimes it was a lousy translation, but often it had absolutely no relation to the original lyrics. then sometimes like with Manson above, they take the lyrics and change the rest.
is a cover limited to the most faithful interpretation of the original, or does anything go?

One of Jimi Hendrix's most iconic tunes is the creepy and misanthropic "Hey Joe," about a dude who plans to gun down his girlfriend. "Hey Joe" was originally recorded by rock group The Leaves in 1966, and a year later by Hendrix.
