My e500 sounds like a lively hd650. Hope that makes sense. No veil, tighter bass, more detailed highs, etc. I haven't put on my hd650s or k701s since I got them.

Thanks for all your impressions, guys. Just what I was looking for. Helps hold me over until I get home today and (hopefully) find my E500s waiting for me!

E500 has an overall better sound than the E5, however E5 will still deliver stronger bass due to it's larger woofer.

E500 has basically more definition and presence in the mid range and I much prefer the end result of the E500 over the E5. But keep in mind that the E5 will deliver more overall bass (with less definition, but will).
