Like what ASIO and kernel streaming are? And what foobar does differently than itunes. I don't see any info like this in the stickies.
Could someone inform me about computer audio?

Some info here:
Audio Stream Input/Output - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kernel streaming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In short they are 'protocols/interfaces' (or whatever) allowing the sound to bypass parts of the OS, streaming the audio data a shorter route to the sound card. Which in turn should improve the sound quality.
Foobar2000 support both 'protocols/interfaces', while iTunes do not support either of them.

Ok because I tried asio4all on foobar and didn't notice much of a difference.

I read the head-fi guide and installed asio4all, but the tray icon isn't appearing. Not sure why.

Yup it is. And when I play a test signal in foobar I can't hear anything? Ugh.

ok i got winamp to work with asio but it skips a lot and crackles on some tracks

What OS are you using? With Foobar you would use WASAPI for Windows Vista or 7.

Depending on your Windows version and sound settings there might not even be an improvement.
On XP the windows mixer forces you to resample everything, on Vista/7 you can configure the sample rate in the playback device properties.
