Here are specifications quoted from an email from Mr. Takei

Quote:

Thank you for your inquiry about of group buy.
* we will fix the specification as follows.
1. XLR model (We named it as H2XLR & TR2XLR)
H2XLR; Neutrik-black-goldpin 4pinXLR-mail connector & spring belt
TR2XLR; front; Neutrik-black-goldpin 4pinXLR-femail connector
back; 4 speaker binding posts only (same as TR2)
The photograph is appended.
2. TRS model (H2 & TR2)
H2; a standard one quarter inch plug & black leather belt
TR2; front; a standard one quarter inch jack
back; 4 speaker binding posts only

*I hope as an ordered step as follows.
1. Please let know ; Model name to order, amount, your name, address to send,
and telephone-number.
2. We will put out we prepared to send. Please give the transfer to us
when you receive the report by either of the following methods.
PayPal: [ttakei@axel.ocn.ne.jp]
MoneyBookers: [ttakei@axel.ocn.ne.jp]
We also accept bank transfer.
The XLR model is [JPY176000], and the TRS model is [JPY151000]
We hope the transfer in the JPY. It becomes a currency exchange rate
at the time of the transfer.

* "Is it possible to buy the H2 without the TR2?
I'm interested in building my own transformer."
Only H2(XLR) &TR2(XLR) in the group.
Please contact us individually about only H2.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or if
anything is unclear.

Best Regards
Takei

I asked Mr. Takei if he could still make a TR2 with XLR inputs and he replied as follows:

Quote:

The prototype for which the input of L and R was made respectively
with the XLR connectors of three pins was sold to a head-fi member.
The photograph of back panel of XLR-input is appended
If you like the same one,we makes it by JPY10000 improvement than the XLR model.
Please mail the specification when another specification is hope.
We will examine whether we can do it.

Best Regards,
Takei

Update: Please refrain from making payments just yet. The OP will be updated soon with pics and detailed payment info.

In response to a question earlier, the XLR model (H2XLR) has the spring belt (wire-bound), while the TRS model (H2TRS) has the leather headband as seen in Duggeh's Review.

thanks for helping to get this thing in motion, I am really excited to hear this bad boys. Here's to hoping they pair well with 300b tube amps or Nelson Pass designs.
Does Mr. Takei have any recommended amps?

Hey guys,
i'm going to have to back out of this one...I've sold my entire headphone rig, to make way for a speaker rig, and i can't afford the expense

Sorry, hope you all enjoy them!

(bodhi, I can't wait to hear them at the meet!)

I have decided to back out as well.
Cause the group buy price ended somewhat higher than what we was first informed about. We were informed that we would have the upgraded version for the same price as the "old" one, at around $1300 shipped (the thread was removed, so I don't remember the exact amount).

Hope you guys will enjoy yours though!

How about some basic engineering specs for the headphones, transformer

Headphone:

sensitivity should still be in dB/V

impedance should be largely capacitive, in nF, equivalent circuit seen at terminals if RC xover used internally

peak V limit at terminals of headphone (from dielectric breakdown, depolarization or other limit)

Transformer:

turns ratio
primary, secondary series R
primary inductance
peak operating V

these basic electrical specifications are the bare minimum to enable customers to judge the required amplifcation and safe operating limits

ideally a really professional set of specifications would include frequency and impedance graphs for the h2 and h2+tr2, with some indication of distortion at reasonable spl

transformers add low frequency roll off and distortion as well as a upper frequency limit from the leakage inductance/series R reacting with the load C that should be quantified

jcx, there are some more specs here. Also, the maximum voltage to the H2 itself is 200V according to the manual.

Some power requirements have been stated earlier in the thread. They are: 8W into 16ohms, or about 10Vpp and 0.8A into 16ohms. If your amp operates well at low impedances and can supply those figures without introducing too much noise, it should drive the H2/TR2 combo well.
