I asked Mr. Takei if he could still make a TR2 with XLR inputs and he replied as follows:

In response to a question earlier, the XLR model (H2XLR) has the spring belt (wire-bound), while the TRS model (H2TRS) has the leather headband as seen in Duggeh's Review.

thanks for helping to get this thing in motion, I am really excited to hear this bad boys. Here's to hoping they pair well with 300b tube amps or Nelson Pass designs.
Does Mr. Takei have any recommended amps?

I have decided to back out as well.
Cause the group buy price ended somewhat higher than what we was first informed about. We were informed that we would have the upgraded version for the same price as the "old" one, at around $1300 shipped (the thread was removed, so I don't remember the exact amount).

How about some basic engineering specs for the headphones, transformer

Headphone:

sensitivity should still be in dB/V

impedance should be largely capacitive, in nF, equivalent circuit seen at terminals if RC xover used internally

peak V limit at terminals of headphone (from dielectric breakdown, depolarization or other limit)


Transformer:

turns ratio
primary, secondary series R
primary inductance
peak operating V

these basic electrical specifications are the bare minimum to enable customers to judge the required amplifcation and safe operating limits

ideally a really professional set of specifications would include frequency and impedance graphs for the h2 and h2+tr2, with some indication of distortion at reasonable spl

transformers add low frequency roll off and distortion as well as a upper frequency limit from the leakage inductance/series R reacting with the load C that should be quantified

jcx, there are some more specs here. Also, the maximum voltage to the H2 itself is 200V according to the manual.

Some power requirements have been stated earlier in the thread. They are: 8W into 16ohms, or about 10Vpp and 0.8A into 16ohms. If your amp operates well at low impedances and can supply those figures without introducing too much noise, it should drive the H2/TR2 combo well.
