Last summer I spent parts of my vacation touring New England by car, and the other part of my trip just bumming around New York - mostly the touristy areas of Manhattan.
Now I'm thinking of a second visit, with focus on seeing more of The Big Apple - any hints on what I should see and do? And where to stay? There must be more to NYC than the pubs of S:t Marks Place and the neon lights of Times Square...
To get the settings right, I'm probably travelling alone and I'm a 30+ male who loves music and good food and drinks but too old for all night binge drinking sessions...
I'd love to find the hidden gems, the used guitar store, the idyllic cafe or book shop, the neighbourhood bistro. Appreciate any pointers! Accomodations will be the better part of the fixed costs, so hints for decent and reasonably quiet/clean/safe hotels is also appreciated.
