I've gone through the various threads but remain uncertain of the answer. I have the new Ipad with the lightning connector. I'm looking for a basic dac/amp to use when laying in bed. I've been looking at the Fiio E7 or E17. What needs to be between the Ipad and the dac/amp to make this connection work?

Appreciate the help.

This is the first thread that I looked into:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/507559/list-of-dacs-that-work-with-ipad

then just trying to figure out with the CCK + powered USB hub + DAC, I stumbled upon this thread:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/625493/ipad-with-24-bit-files-high-storage-capacity-portability-bit-perfect-configurations-that-works
......brilliant, the "powered USB hub" might be the key here next to the CCK.

I haven't yet tried my mini iPad with lightning connector adapter to 30 pin + CCK + powered USB hub + DAC.

OR just connect your iPad to Cypherlab -R, might be the safest route but a bit pricey. They have validated that their DAC are compatible with the new lightning connector.

Hope those help.
Cheers

Thanks for the responses. I had looked at a few of those but they applied to the older generation Ipads.

Would I need one of these: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD824ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter-02-m?fnode=3a&fs=m.ipadCompatibility%3Dipad4gen or is that only if I use Line Out Dock (I didn't see one designed specifically for the lightning connection.)

But I couldn't find a cck for the new Ipad. Would I need an adaptor and a cck to output the digital signal?

I wonder if I'd be better off with the adapter I linked and a lod to the input of a headphone amp and let the Ipad do the decoding.

I sent an email to Tekkeon to see if the Tekcharge 1820 (http://www.tekkeon.com/products-tekcharge1820.html) would work to output the signal and avoid the low power error.

Yes for now, you need the lightning adapter to 30 pin + CCK, cause Apple has not came out with Lightning CCK yet.

Let me know your findings on tekkeon.

The response I got was:

Thank you for your inquiry.  MP1820 will only provide power to iPad.  Whatever iPad will provide to the dac/headphone amplifier will depend on the iPad.  I hope this answers your question.  If you have any question please don't hesitate to contact me.

Not actually sure that means yes or no.

Also, can't say I'm terribly happy about needing $60 in adapters to output an un-amped signal.

Sorry to hear that. Yes it does not make sense to have 2 adapters to retrieve digital signals from new iPad with new lightning connector.
Apple has yet to introduce any simple lightning accessories for high end audio gear. I haven't seen any cable manufacturers came out with a simple LOD for lightning connectors devices.

Efjay,
Did you check ALO Facebook recent pictures? It says the set up works but does not mention if the output is real 24 bit or 16 bit.
It shows iPad mini + lightning to USB camera adapter + Alo A to USB mini B + the new ALO International Amp/DAC 24bit-96

Whadaya know? All of these........and the lightning to USB camera adapter actually does works.........better get this adapter then to try.
