I know that Each of these sound better amped than unamped... some better than others. But I was wondering, how do these compare in unamped SQ???

I listened to my friend's HD555 unamped and absolutely loved them. THey sounded exactly the same to me amped and unamped though. The HD25-1 is another headphone which I feel like sounds EXACTLY the same amped and unamped, so you can tell I'm not an audiophile.

How do the HD595 and the HD580 unamped measure to the HD555? I ask this because I'm wondering which one to buy, and am not planning to buy an amp in the near future.

?????

what in the heck are you talking about??

I've heard the HD555 and the HD595 unamped out of my iPod, and it was louder than my ears could handle. I've never heard the HD580s but i've read a recent topic stating that they were more than loud enough unamped...

I'm strictly talking SQ wise, volume is not a problem....

All headphones need some sort of amp, even if it's just the ****ty one built into the iPod. (i was just being pedantic and winding you up really)
The HD595s I have here sound okay without an amp, but definitely better with some power behind them.

with an ipod or iriver t10 you can get enough volume from hd580s. But highs are a bit harsh but overall its still better than hd555

Oh, haha. Gotcha~~ I'm kinda slow**

Sorry, I guess I'll rephrase the question.... How do they compare straight out of an Ipod??? I heard that there's not much a difference between the HD555 and the HD595 unamped.... so I guess I'm asking between the HD580 and the HD555

I'll take HD580 over HD595 after owning each (well I had 600 and 595, 600 is same as 580 though...) for extensive periods of time. The sound is much cleaner from HD580, better timbre...although you generally have to push the player to the max to get comfortable volume out of the 580s.

For portable use from an iPod, I'd go with the HD555. It's fun to listen to and is far better suited for portability than the HD595 or HD580, mainly because it's lighter and more comfortable. And that's only if you and others around you don't mind you using open cans that leak sound in and out.

I'm not sure how loud an iPod would drive the HD580, but a computer drives them "OK" for home use. I don't recommend the HD580 without an amp, but I do recommend it IF some day you "may" buy an amp or DAC/amp for it. Otherwise the HD595 would be a good choice for a home cans.

I have never listened to a HD555...

HD580 vs HD595 unamped, I'll take HD595. I like HD580 amped but hate it unamped. Unamped HD580 has too much veil on top of the sound.
HD595 is a little more forward sounding and sounds OK unamped though amp could help.

The 595 with a 50 ohm impedance holds is driven just fine with most any headphone output. That said, it does do very well with an amped line out, particularly with a tube amp. I have not demoed other Senns, but I use my 595's with an LD MKII and and iBasso D1, in various configurations.

I would definitely recommend the 595 if you are always going to be using them without a decent amp. They are a lively can with a fairly good balance and do quite well without an amp. However, with a good amp the 580s will outdo the 595s.

x2. The HD580 is just the better headphone. An ipod isn't really enough for it, but it'll get you a foot in the door of greatness instead of a wide-open door of mediocrity with the HD5x5. It will, however, eventually drive you to pick up a cheap amp, when you happen to have a little cash. And from there, it's a slippery slope.

pretty much everything sounds better amped...even if its a small CMOY amp...

If you 100% for sure have NO interests in getting a amp, then i would say the 595 ....if you even have a small, no matter how small, interests in getting a amp, then the 580s.

I believe that the sounds from a amped 580s will for sure be nicer then the 595, however, unamped, i think the 595 will sound better..just my opinion though.
