Community Help: DIY: Electrostatic Speakers

Your first DIY project?  Might want to work your way up before you try messing with something that can end up killing you.  There are also books available on making ESLs.

Hmm how might it kill me??

Touch both stators at the same time. A slipup during a test of the power supply will do it, too.

The power needed for speakers is a bit higher than what you need for headphones. Be sure you know your way around high voltage, first.

There are a number of resources available. One book I have is "The Electrostatic Loudspeaker Design Cookbook," by Roger Sanders. He takes you through it step-by-step.

However, you might want to keep an eye out for a pair of dead Quads. Restoring a pair can be cheaper than entirely DIY and you'll have access to a lot of restoration materials and tips.

ohh that way. I actually have an engineer working with me so I doubt I am going to electrocute myself...
I just wanted to find out what material is the best to work with...
Thanks for the tip on the book though.
