I've been lurking and loving these forums for introducing me to a fun, albeit wallet breaking, hobby.

Anyways, I currently have a pair of AT AD700 headphones and I was looking to upgrade to the Beyerdynamic DT880. I find the AD700's to be very comfortable (minimal clamping, large pads, open) and I can wear it for 3-4 hours at a time while playing games. The other pair of cans I have are the Shure SRH840 and my ears get very hot from wearing that fairly quickly (30-40 minutes.) The SRH840 doesn't clamp too hard, but it gets uncomfortable after my ears get warm.

Back to the point, I was wondering if anyone has had both the AD700 and DT880 and are able to compare the comfort of both headphones.

I'd say the DT880 is far more comfortable. It's actually rather light and you shouldn't even feel pressure.

My 880 '03 is incredibly comfortable, whether with the stock velour or J$ leather. As Zombie says, it is light with no pressure.

Of all the can's I've owned, I would say that the DT880s were the MOST comfortable!

Beyers are excellent for their comfort, probably the best on the market.

The DT 880 is a marvel of comfort. For me, way more comfortable than the ATH-AD700.

Comparing the AD300 (which should be similar in build to the AD700) and 880, both are comfy, although the 880 does clamp tighter than the AD300. My noggin's a little narrow though, so I prefer the 880 while the AD300 is a touch too large for me.
