Boy does this sound like an oxymoron. Cold Heat.

But man is this thing is pretty cheap. About $20.

Looks to be a good alternative to the portable butane soldering irons. Although, I doubt you can heatshrink with the Cold Heat Soldering Tool.

Their description of the "Cold" Heat technology reminds me of when you hook up a piece of mechanical pencil graphite to the anode and cathodes of wire leads from a battery.

It does note that this tool would not be good for delicate electronics soldering.

Also the cumbersome size of this thing would make delicate work more difficult too.

Sounds like a pretty good tool to play with. I just ordered one since I have A LOT of soldering to do this summer and will put it through its paces and report back. Thanks for the links.

Oops. I meant to post this in the DIY forum. Mods please move if you like.

Yes, Mike. $20 USD. But the additional tips cost $10 USD. Heheh.

This could really come in handy for soldering on the go, or in awkward places without access to the mains.

That's a good review, G3N3R1K.

Seems like this is a portable poor man's resistance soldering. This may not be ideal for soldering say, OP Amps or other chips.

Although this would be awesome for interconnects and other wires.

They really do need to make a thinner version with an external power supply that can be plugged in.
