I built my first amp today, a cmoy. Now I'm testing it with some music, and every few minutes the music goes REALLY quiet. If I turn it off and on again, it's fine.
What could be the problem? I guess it might be the potentiometer? Has anyone experienced this before?

I'm fairly sure it was a faulty op amp. Maybe overheating or something

Can you describe your amp's symptoms?
does it just go quiet or is there something else?
how long does it go quiet and how often does it happen?
 
It is more likely that there is a fault in the circuit. i.e. bad contact

What opamp are you using? If it is getting hot, it is possibly oscillating which means there is something wrong with the circuit.

I was using a LF353, but I swapped it to the usual burr brown op amp for cmoys. I've been using it for days now, and there are no problems what so ever. If there was a problem with the circuit, would there be any other symptoms now?
 
edit; I should also mention that I felt the op amp just then with my finger, and it's barely warm at all. So the new one isn't overheating at all. I'm not even sure the old one was
