I've had my Sennheiser HD700 for 7years or so now, and been very happy with them.

I am now looking for something in the same price range but closed, with decent sound isolation, they don't have to replace the HD700 as these new ones will be used when it's noisy around me.

I've been looking at Beyerdynamic DT1770 and Shure 1540, have not tested them. I did have the DT770 before though, which I did enjoy, but that's over 10 years ago.

Any suggestions or recommendations? :)

DT1770s are a nice set of cans. They're more neutral than I expected, good build quality, good isolation. They do need a healthy amp though.

I also have HD700s, really like them, but like you sometimes fancy trying some closed backs.

I had thought about the Austrian Audio Hi-x55 - they are approx. £250 ($350), not what you paid for your HD700s but maybe what they could be got for now second hand, if you shop around.

Anyone got first hand experience of them?

I don't see any specs on the website and none in the manual either. No way to know. I'm sure it won't give you all the DT1770s can offer. But it might be ok until you can get an amp.
