closed headphone and noise cancelling?

Closed headphones have "Passive" noise cancellation. What the means is, some of the external noise will get blocked out naturally, due to the enclosure surrounding your ears.

Noise canceling headphones use "Passive" and "Active" noise cancellation. "Active" noise cancellation uses electronics to cancel out unwanted external sound.

Also note that active noise cancellation uses battery power, wheras passive isolation uses none. IEMs are the best for lowering environmental sounds, and many of them use only passive noise isolation.
