Hello everyone,

I am looking for a pair of closed full-sized headphones for around $100? These will be for work so making sure others can't hear my music is important. I listen to a range of music genres.

I can the DT770 for $110 used. What might be some others that would be in that price range? Any of them better than the DT770?

Sennheiser HD 25s are killer if you can tolerate on-ear. Not sure if you can get a pair for 100 bucks in your area.

I had similar question at hand. Not sure about price range in your area. But my list came down to that from local price range 100-200 €

1. Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80-ohm
2. AKG K550 mk ii
3. Shure SRH840
4. NAD viso HP50
5. Audio-Techinca ATH-A990Z
6. Brainwavz HM5
7. SoundMAGIC HP150

Its nearly impossible to say that some are better than other. I assume you know well enough, different headphones sound very different, better or worse in similar price range often mean nothing. I advise to listen them, if possible. I sadly could listen only few of them and chose DT 770 due to comfort, as I will be wearing them in office 3-5 h a day. Also they too offer decent passive isolation. Most reviews in forum suggest that 80-ohm (somewhat due to velour pads) sound much better than 32-ohm ones. So think over what you have driving them, so you would know which to pick (there are also 250 ohm version). AKG 550 mkii would have been my second choice.

I own the AKG K371 and K553 mii (basically the K550 mk ii). I think the K371 is better than the K361 - thought it is more expensive. I honestly haven't been super impressed with the K553s. To be sure, they're more durable than the K371s and have a wider sound-stage, but I don't know if the sound quality itself is that much better than the K371s. Plus, they leak more sound. The K371s are more comfortable and portable though.

I compared the K371s against the Beyerdynamic 770 and 990 Pro in store and I liked the K371s better. The Beyerdynamic were too bright for my taste. I've also heard them described as bassy though, so it's possible they we're a bad pair I tried.

Thanks for the info. I still have not had chance to test ones myself (COVID-19 shutdown). But by end of April I may buy a pair in blind, then I will take BT DT 770, as they are described very confy and good isolation. It appears, that a lot depends which ohm version you tried, and through what you drove them. Most reviews do describe them as bassy. Other concern is leakage, sadly open-office and I sure don´t want to disturb others, so currently 770 should fit the best.

At least on picture K371 does not seem as comfortable as K553 or K550. I will have option to try out K371, K361 and K550 in future, when all this virus is over.
