Lookin for a portable set I can use with my T51.
Ideally it wouldn't have a high impedance, otherwise the battery won't last long at a good volume.
Closed because I like isolation, and don't want to broadcast my music.
For the record: I really like my balanced HD650, I liked the Grado RS1, I thought the DT990 were good but didn't have enough bass and I didn't like the D5000.
I kinda understand what people meant about the "wooly" bass and sibilance of the D5000. Really not my cup of tea (that being said, I don't like tea

).
My budget is £275 MAX. That's not to say that I necessarily need to buy something in that price range.
I am considering the ultrasone PRO 900, because iheadphones.co.uk has them for £250

I just posted this thread, because I was wondering if you guys had any better ideas/reccomendations.

In general, I listen to rock and electronic based music.

I like tea and coffee, but i still want to know the answer.

I like my M-Audio Q40, which is closed, but it doesnt sound like the 650.

Id like to know the answer also.

Maybe a Denon?

I've heard the Kenwood K1000 described as a closed HD650 before.

.. and they are only 42ohms

Look into them =)

They have the big loop things :/
I'd be wearing these outside so I don't want to attract much attention, I may use them in the gym too..I probably should've mentioned that..

Also it'd ideally not have a LONG cable, and be terminated in a 1/8" connector, so I don't need big adaptors and a bundle of cable in my pockets to listen to them.

I mentioned that I didn't like the Denon AH-D5000

I'll look into comparisons of the KH-K1000, it'll likely be compared to closed cans, so it's somewhere for me to start looking, thanks nullstring.

NoXter's DT880 closed back mod could be the ticket if you tune it to deliver enough bass.

That'd be fine if I could make it work, but the impedance is really high (250/600ohm)..

*edit*
I've read the thread now. Apparently it shared the DT770 driver. This considered, I might try a DT770 80 ohm, apparently it sound almost the same as its 250ohm version.

Sealing an open can without destroying the sound balance is complicated, mostly it doesn't work at all.

Pro 900 kind of a non brainer except you really want to hear them properly amped
smily_headphones1.gif
.

Kenwood KH-K1000 I am quite curious about myself. May ask KeeS he has heard pretty much every headphone on the planet it seems. I want to remember it being mentioned as laid back ala the senns anyway if you preferr that.

I didn't find many similarities..they didn't interest me much. I did like the build quality though.
Well I'll try the PRO 900 first, then DT770 80ohm, then the HFI 780, if it comes to that.

To add another thought- call me crazy but I think my Klipsch X5 IEM's are not too far from the 650 (mainly that they have good midrange presence and decent bass with smooth highs) but sound great to my ears and they are my main closed headphone (portable or on my AGD gear). And they sure as hell are portable.

Hmm... I didn't think so.
