May make some people angry, but I think closed headphones between 1-300 dollar zone just blow ass.

Since the OP specifically asked for closed phones, your opinion is irrelevant.

They apparently bought the trademark from RCA. They still use the logo with the dog hearing "his master's voice".

Thought about the Sennheiser HD25-II? Great isolation and good tight bass and feels indestructible. Don't think I've seen them in this thread, and they sure deserve at least one recommendation

I think we had them all now

I still own a pair of HD280s. They are quite nice for the price, but Beyers (particularly DT770 Pro/80 or DT150) are a huge step up.

True, and his opinion was the first to say that ALL closed cans blow ass. From what I've read this certainly isn't the case unless you're comparing $200 closed cans to say $400 open cans. I know you can get a better sound with open headphones, but I'm interested in isolation because these are going to be my new workhorse headphones. I'll bridge the gap from this later in a couple years when I'm done uni and have a stable job.

So in terms of best jump for cost, it's going to be a toss between the Q40 and DT770 generally. I've actually found a local store that sells the Q40s, I'll be trying them out soon.
