I've looked over the buyers guide and I'm somewhat overwhelmed, and I think I need some points of reference.

I'm looking to upgrade to closed full sized cans. I want to upgrade to closed cans because I want a headphone that has little to no sound leakage, does a good job of blocking outside noise. I ride transit quite a bit and I want the headphones to double as headphones for monitoring and music recording. I've also heard that noise cancelling phones kinda suck, and most have bad noise leakage.

My point of reference are PX100 headphones, and I've been very hard pressed to find a pair that I like better in terms of sound quality, but then again I've never tried anything above into the $300 region.

Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone

The K271 applies to most of those requirements, but if you like the PX100, the DT770 might be better and applies to the requirements. Maybe the D2000 but there are build issues.

I've heard a real love/hate relationship with Denon. On one hand they're considered high end and quite comfortable, on the other the sound quality or build quality isn't always there...

Also I like almost all types of music, but I'm partial to 60s-70s rock and acoustic.

Thanks for the reply

Might I suggest the Audio-Technica ATH-A900Ti? I recently got them and I'm beginning to really like them. They can be found for about $330 (new) on eBay.

Acoustic? The K271s excel there.

Well, I just read a bunch of threads basically denouncing it :p

So I think for the moment it's going to be between D2000, DT770 and AD900Ti.

Any other possibilities?

Really? Which ones? AKG mids are amazing.

Well, from reading reviews I'm pretty excited about Audio Technicas. However I don't know which one to choose.

A900 = $250 shipped
A900Ti = $400 minimum

Is the price difference vs. sound quality warranted?

I'm sure at $400 there are would be other options out there...

The A900/A900 Ti is not what you are looking for. Forget about using them for transit, they are not going to give you enough isolation. Please do yourself a favor and get a good IEM for your transit listening, and a seperate headphone like the DT150 for monitoring.

X2 on the K271.
And they will also be fine with 60s-70s rock IMO.
There are Headfi-ers who prefer the K271 over the D2000 and A900, because of the controlled/ punchy bass and non-recessed mids.

I'm not a fan of IEMs. I'm not an isolation nazi, Im currently using PX100s and they do just fine, I just need more isolation, not maximum isolation.

Also like I said earlier, I'm a student and I'm not really interested in paying for more than one set of headphones
