I've got the ESW10s, the same sized limited brother... was thinking about the ESW9, but then the ESW10 popped up

For what it's worth: ESW10 is like a mix between my SR325i and HD650, it has a full sound like the sennheiser and the forwardness/detailed sound like grado. Very musical sound.
Isolation is so-so, not bad but not great either. Comfort is very good and it sounds great out of an iPod.

FWIR the ESW9 is often compared to sennheiser for sound. (but you can use the search function

)

Beyer 770 Pro, BD USA-$98.00. Excellent iso. If you drop a lil change for a portable amp they will do nicely. I like the DT 150 better but they aren't as practical for transit. Plus more expensive.

Any suggestions?

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 (can be found on eBay for $100+), but before you take my word or any other forum members, go out and try different headphones. They may sound good, but may not be comfortable or vice versa.

There's one place I recall having a headphone rack in Toronto called Bay Bloor Radio, although they do not carry the brands that we're looking at in this thread, unfortunately.

I think the choices are down to Q80, ESW9 or DT770.

Btw, are all 880s semi-open? How's the 990 compared to 770?

all 880's are semi-open, surprisingly good isolation though (tried it in a normal room with talking people) not total isolation but not bad either.

from short experience the 990 is more bassy and more trebbly than the 770, with a slight gap in the mids. I did like the 770, I did not like the 990. The 770 seemed more neutral. 880 was not there.

May make some people angry, but I think closed headphones between 1-300 dollar zone just blow ass. Even the D2000 which I had, they all dramatically change the music and none of them are balanced/neutral, or play back the recording properly.

So my recommendation, just go get yourself a JVC HA-RX900 from Buy.com for $55 and free shipping. I haven't heard this particular JVC but have heard JVC closed in the past and say, the diminishing return between JVC closed and the $325 dollar D2000 (From authorized dealer), well, its really diminished.
JVC HA-RX900 Stereo Headphone - HARX900 - Buy.com

The HA-RX900 is manufactured by Victor, the same company that manufactures the DX1000. Not saying just cause its Victor its awesome, but at least can have confidence its manufactured by a company that knows headphones.

Save your money for a good Open Air can and a decent DAC/Amp. Even a cheap Open Air like AD700 hooked up to a Zero DAC+Little Dot 1+ will get you way more bang for the buck and would cost around $400, including shipping.
