I don’t think a pentaconn could even fit in the current Mojo2 case. I don’t think the FGPA is capable of balanced output. Period.
No need for a true balanced out. Just 4.4 connector. Having less adapters is always better.

I don’t see Chord putting in balanced HP out and it not be balanced. Pentaconn is proprietary and they charge royalties to use the connector. This rumor is completely out of character for Chord.

There’s no harm in wishing for something, but it’ll never happen unless there is a significant functional or sound advantage. Just look at the portfolio of Chord products. None have balanced connectors for HP. And, all their balanced connections are true balanced analog outputs. Their new studio amp (Alto) is 4 SE outputs. Tons of power on tap.

In the comments section of the recent video review of the Mojo 2 from Zeos on YouTube, someone said the following,

"During CanJam Singapore last month, Mr. Robert Watts himself informed me that a newer version of the Mojo is planned for release around the end of the year, possibly with the name Mojo 2.1.It will have a 4.4mm output (but unfortunately, not fully balanced)."
An anonymous YouTube comment is about as reliable a source as my five year old. Seems like an awfully expensive change to add such a minor feature.

I agree regarding sonic improvements, but it seems the great majority (for good or not) has moved onto balanced, I myself have reluctantly had to capitulate due to so many devices offering more power over balanced out,
I've gone in the opposite direction and gotten rid of most of my balanced cables and gear. At best, the benefits of balanced are slim and only then in very limited scenarios. At worst, balanced headphone connections adversely impact output impedance and mess with headphones' FR. Not a worthwhile tradeoff IMO. As long as your SE gear has passable crosstalk performance, and as long as your headphones don't need a jet engine to power them, SE is more than enough.

The Alto has a 4.4mm jack that is single ended, exactly as others have suggested could be done with a Mojo 2.?.
I stand corrected. Thanks.

Still can’t see Chord retooling for a 4.4 jack for a 2.1 release product. IMHO.

We all can dream.

Pentaconn is a plug/socket made by Nippon Dics; it's just that Sony were one of the the companies first to implement it in headphone cables and DAPs. But as far as I know, it's not proprietary. There are several companies making 4.4mm sockets and plugs of varying qualities.

Chord have used a 4.4mm output on their Alto amp for convenience. I wouldn't be wholly surprised if they attached a 4.4mm output on any future revision of Mojo 2 in the same way they simply added on a USB-C, likely in a rather begrudging way to appease demand.

It’s buried in the internet somewhere. Maybe since it’s been out for 10 years something changed. I am confident at some point that it did have royalties attached fo devices to use the pentaconn jack. The plug was a different story. Regardless, my comment is apparently irrelevant.

This is all speculation based on a Zeos YT comment. Maybe Chord is deciding to go a new direction. We’ll see. I’m happy to be wrong.

I certainly agree with that.

Fitting a 4.4mm inside the Mojo case seems easy enough if it was designed that way from day one but adding it later would require the board to be redesigned to create board space to fit the block that the jack is inside.

A google image search of the board quickly shows there isn’t the spare real estate to just swap jacks, they would need to move components but of course there isn’t a lot of spare room to move them to.

It would not surprise me if they used 4.4mm on a future Mojo but it certainly seems very unlikely on some interim stop gap model.

I love the Mojo 2 however don’t use as a portable DAC. It stays at home.

Looking for a smaller slimmer form DAC like maybe iFi Go Bar Kensei. Any comparison here between these 2 Dacs.
Ifi go bar kensei sounds very good, (compared them, just out of curiousity) but not a match for the mojo2, mojo2 is hard to beat in that price range

I have the Mojo 2 and also the iBasso DC Elite.

They are both really superb and I prefer either depending on my mood.

Definitely recommend that device if you want something smaller. It's really detailed but also leans warm.

The battery has died in my Mojo 2 and I'm just awaiting the replacement battery otherwise I would provide a bit more objective comparison.

I was also interested in the Kensei when I bought the iBasso.
